Update:
I took a couple pictures but quickly learned how difficult it is to take a steady shot with a digital camera of such a distant object of such polar contrast to the surrounding color. Eventually I rigged up the tripod. This shot turned out to be the best and managed to catch a small plane from the town airport.

that was pretty cool. I tried to get some pictures of it with my digital binoculars but there wasn't enough light. It was also quick cold and my hands wouldn't stop shaking.
